An update from Doris Al-Land!

A few weeks ago, CISV Fredericton hosted a minicamp called “Doris Al-Land”, a play on the words Doris Allen. It was a great success!  We focused on the theme of World Issues and planned activities that focused on current events.
The staff had a great time planning!  We decided to create a promotional video to try and get more interest in our camp, and it worked really well.  JB Iceland saw our video and challenged us to a craziest/silliest faceoff.

A lot of new delegates as well as past CISVers attended the “Doris Al-Land” minicamp.  We did many energizers, like the Pony Song and Purple soup, and did activities like Mango Alias and listened to a RadioLab podcast.
We are really looking for forward to our next activity, this past minicamp has got everyone excited about CISV!
Lots of love from JB Fredericton

London's Annual Cookie-a-thon!

In the past month CISV London was hard at work planing our first successful activity since our fall minicamp. like many other chapters in Canada we hosted our annual Cookie-a-thon.

During our 12 hour activity we had a total of 35 participants including new travellers and preteens that have a shared interest in making new friends and baking cookies. Even parents came out to partake in the activities and the countless energizers that we did through the activity. Our JB created a brand new activity, where participants were divided up into numerous countries from around the world and learnt a bit about their respective country, the type of government and fun facts like currency, politics, and how much their country was in dept to china, all while trading for the ingredients to make cookies, with the end goal of having the most cookies at the end of the hour.

This year we donated 2596 cookies, with many more being eaten by participants, by the time the sun set on this jam packed day we were all begging to get out of the kitchen and into our beds.

Cookie-a-Thon: CISV Ottawa Style!

Hey CISV Canada!
Recently the CISV Ottawa chapter hosted our annual Cookie-a-Thon! We all had a blast and we ended up baking 1200 cookies! (Yes Toronto, you beat us) We played games like mafia, suits and a huge game of Apples To Apples, along with baking a ton of cookies and watching Frozen!

We are selling most of the cookies but we are also setting up a sponsor program where instead of buying a bag of cookies for themselves, Ottawa members can buy one to send to our local homeless shelter: the Ottawa Mission!

We will be selling a lot of these cookie at our up and coming event: Silly Chili, which is a chapter-wide potluck dinner where the chapter members can meet the traveling delegations for this year!
Well that's all for now from Ottawa! We will keep you all updated on our events!

Cookies, Cookies and more Cookies: An update from JB Toronto

Hey JB Canada! It’s Adam from JB Toronto. We just had our annual cookieathon. We all worked very hard some of us even worked all night to get the cookie making done. It was a blast.

We ended up making 3200 cookies, which we gave to the poor. Not only did we make cookies, we also played some really fun games as well as made some new friends. One of the coolest parts of the night was when we had someone who was on the first village ever come and talk to us about it. He showed us a video of his village and explained what they were doing on it. It was very interesting to know all about it. In all we had a great time and are already excited for next years cookieathon!

Branch Out: a new IJB Project

Having trouble completing your 5/8 activities? Participate in this IJB Project! It count's as one!

Branch Out is the International Junior Branch Project on Diversity for 2014. It is composed of six steps that will be published throughout the year.

Dive In! is the first step of Branch Out. It aims to promote a discussion on Sexuality and Gender Diversity issues.

It is composed of one ready-to-run activity and further reading on the topic. We hope it will be a useful tool for CISV to explore Diversity in 2014.

CISV Victoria: Anti-Bullying Day

February 26th, as you may all know, is Anti-Bullying Day and CISV Victoria got involved! We had a few representatives go to a local film festival to watch videos made by youth about anti-bullying, participate in the fun crowd activities, and promote CISV to the youth of Victoria.

There were 20 videos locally made by youth groups (most of the audience were under the age of 10), all entered to win prizes. Sadly, we didn't have time to make a video so we are hoping to submit one next year. We learned about the importance of inclusion and how taking a small step and speaking up for someone else will go a long way. The sea of pink shirts and smiles was very loud and excited on this Wednesday night and CISV Victoria was pumped to be a part of this!!
