JBer of the Month Award / Prix du JBer du mois

Katie Waller - 1st ever recipient
Katie Waller - Toute 1ère récipiente

Katie’s strong dedication to Junior Branch locally and her embodiment of CISV’s ideals earned her this award today. By her efforts to show people outside of CISV what CISV and JB is and means, by constantly pushing JB Halifax to improve, and finally, by always motivating her fellow JBers to do better, Katie is helping her chapter to grow.

CISV Montréal Cookie baking time!

Hi JB Canada!
Bonjour chère JB Canada,

This is the very first attempt of the Commsquad for a bilingual post, so here it is:

Cette semaine on célèbre les accomplissements de la branche junior de Montréal qui a organisé son cookie-o-thon annuel en janvier dernier! Plusieurs jeunes se sont fait un plaisirde s’y présenter, prêts à se mettre les mains à la pâte.

Le résultat? 410 délicieux biscuits ont été remis à l’organisme Dans la rue veillant aux besoins immédiats des jeunes sans abri pour les mener vers une vie plus autonome.
This week’s post is to display JB Montreal’s wonderful accomplishments. Indeed, they hosted their annual cookie-a-thon last January and many JBers came ready to bake! The results?

410 delicious cookies have been handed to an organization called Dans la rue. This Montreal-based organization cares for the immediate needs of homeless youth and youth at risk in order to help them lead more autonomous lives.

Great job JB Montreal! Beau travail JB Montréal!

Until next time JB Canada! :)

CISV Ottawa keeping warm with cookies!

A few weeks ago on the second weekend of December (Dec. 12-13), CISV Ottawa had its first ever Holiday Cookie-A-Thon! They baked over 1300 cookies that are seemingly traditional for the holiday season! The JB of Ottawa made ginger molasses, sugar, and vanilla cookies! (YUM!) As well as playing some super fun activities run by the older JBers, the participants had a lot of fun mixing, rolling, baking, and decorating!!
With about 30 participants of all different ages, they were up and moving constantly until about 4am when everyone was exhausted! Throughout the night they had a game of Canadian Trivia, a crazy game of squirt, and many pick-up games of basketball, amongst many other games and energizers!
To spread the wealth to the non-CISV citizens of Ottawa, a group of brave JBers stood outside in the cold selling to citizens! They were more than happy to deal with the cold, however, because they were spreading the word about CISV and selling a ton of cookies! All of the profits made from this year’s Cookie-A-Thon will be donated to the CISV Ottawa bursary fund! This will help Ottawa JBers who maybe cannot afford to travel get the great opportunity because CISV should be an experience that should be shared!
They cannot wait until the next Cookie-A-Thon to bake even more delicious cookies!

Many thanks to JB Ottawa for this awesome update and pictures of cookies!

Friendly reminder from our amazing NCC, Santana, National camp staff applications are due on January 31st if you know anybody that is interested please email her at ncc@ca.cisv.org

sincerely,

CommSquad :)
