Day 1: 2013-2014 Eh Team Series

Hey JB Canada! This past weekend at NJBM we elected our new Eh Team members. What could be better than a little get to know you profile? We're starting off the 2013-2014 Eh Team series with our new Sr. NJR, Amy Ayer! 



1.What is your position on the Eh Team?  

My position on the Eh Team is Sr NJR


2. What are you most excited for in your position?  

My favorite part of my position because it gives me the ability to make a positive change on behalf of JBers. I am most looking forward to solidifying effective communication within JB Canada! 


3. What would I find in your refrigerator right now?  

You would find apples, vegetables, many many condiments, yogurt and grapes in the freezer (mmm frozen grapes are the best!) 


4. If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be?  

The girl who exploded due to scheduling conflicts: a modern mystery


5. What inspires you and why?  

Ohh man, soo much! I get inspired by lots of little things. For example the way light hits something, or an story on the internet. But my biggest inspiration is the hard work and dedication of the CISVers I work with. There are some amazing people who give so much to CISV without asking for anything in return, and without much recognition. They inspire me. 


6. If you were a dog, what breed would you be?  

I think right now I would want to be a Pit-bull. Yes they have a bad reputation, and people often misunderstand them. But they are loyal and loving and are the original family dog. They are very forgiving and can bonce back to be loving companions even after facing terrible abuse situations. I think that is what I admire most about them, their ability to forgive, forget, and love.











NBM 2013 Thus Far

NBM is up and running, and Day 2 has just finished. We started off the day with some chapter check-ins, and there are some great things happening in all the chapters. The JB got a lot done today, with the NJR candidate workshop run by Mercedes and Lea (the two NJR candidates), Skype check-ins with the IJRs and Mariana from AJB. We went and sat in on the adult plenary and had a joint session held by the risk managers about the new child protection policy. 
Later on, we had the gala held by CISV Ottawa, which was fantastic! We had great food, catered by a local Indian catering company, and dessert donated from a local bakery. A great local Inuit singing and dancing group came in, and showed us traditional Inuit songs, dances and games, which was a lot of fun! Some of the Eh Team even participated and impressed everyone! The whole thing was DJ'd by the Compton brothers from JB Ottawa, and the dance that was held afterwards was awesome as well. 
It's been a busy day for everyone at NBM, but we're only getting more excited for tomorrow, where we'll have the DCC workshop, NJR Q&A and the long awaited hockey draft!

Day 7 of Eh Team Profiles! Sr NJR Dow!

Today is the last day of the Eh Team profiles, and we are profiling the lovely Dow Linell. Dow is our amazing Sr NJR who is finishing her term as NJR this weekend, in fact she has exactly three days left!
Today is also the very first day of NBM 2013 in Ottawa and we can't wait to see everyone there.

Q:What's your position on the Eh team? 

A:Sr. NJR!

Q: What's your favorite part of that job? 

A: My incredible bosses (JB Canada... aweee) and definitely the idea that with the work that my team and I do, we are truly "creating active global citizens".

Q: Best order at Timmies? 

A: Breakfast: #2 bagel BELT on a cheddar bagel... SO GOOD 

     Lunch + Dinner: Turkey Bacon Club Sandwich... YES

     Drink: Always love an icecap made with Chocolate Milk. AM I RIGHT?

Q: What about CISV do you like best that has to do with your position? 

A: I am at that stage in my time with CISV that I absolutely need to give back all that I have received from the organization. I've grown up with CISV in my life and have been given some exceptional opportunities because of it, it's my turn to give that back. I love that I can do exactly that.

Q: What is your position on the Eh Team?
A: I am the Internal Communications Chair

Q: What's your favourite part about the position?
A: I love getting to see what's going on inside CISV Canada, especially getting to pass along what's going on with JB world, a well as getting to work with all the chapters to make magic happen.

Q: What's the best part about CISV that relates to your position?
A:I love getting to play with the kajillions of different ways of communicating that CISV Canada uses. Email, facebook, webex, skype, issuu, blogs, text messages, snapchat, etc.

Eh Team Profiles Day 5! ECC - Mercedes Fogarassy

Wednesday, November 6th is all about MERCEDES FOGARASSY! 

The External Communication Chair sat down with us and spilled the beans on all things CISV! Keep reading to uncover her favourite Tim Horton's Order!

Q: What is your position?

My position is ECC, which means I am in charge of commuincating with all the other NAs as Canada.

Q: What is your favourite part of the job?

Being ECC is a tonne of fun, because I get to update a blog, a twitter account, a facebook page, and know that everyone is staying in the loop. It was also a lot of fun getting the postcards set up, and finding out what each JB is up to!

Q: What is the best order at Timmies?

Best order at Tims... Hmmm Definintely an Ice Capp and a breakfast sandwich (on a biscuit with no meat), because everyone loves breakfast more than any other meal, right?!

Q: What if your favourite thing about CISV that relates to your position?

I love that CISV is so interconnected, and I really got to see that this year, through all the IJB thinks, Peace Day posts, the Right On activities, and so much more. There's so much talking and connecting that goes on behind closed doors, that I would not have been able to see if I wasn't ECC. CISV itself has taught me an abundance of things, from how to organize a fantastic activity, to how to lead a fundraiser that have all made me into a better leader, which has 

allowed me to be a better ECC.

Q: What is your position?  

I am the national camp co-ordinator.

Q: What is your favourite part of the job?

I loved being at camp and getting to meet all the wacky-cool CISVers. I loved seeing all of the cool activities and hanging out with my A+ staff, all of whom were shockingly good-looking! I loved all the dancing! Oh no - thats a few favourite things! sorry!!

Q: What is the best order at Timmies?

TOASTED BUTTERED CHEESE TEA BISCUIT AND A FRENCH ONION SOUP

Q: What if your favourite thing about CISV that relates to your position?

I love learning from the people around me, different perspectives, activities, songs, dances, etc...

Third Eh Team Update: DCC, Mitch Drinkwater!

Q: What is your position?
My position is DCC (Development Committee Coordinator). This entails working with one of the coolest CISVer's I know (TARRA JOSHI)!!

Q: What is your favourite part of the job?
My favourite part about this position was all the amazing projects and activities we put on throughout the year! I also loved working with all awesome LJR's across Canada!

Q: What is the best order at Timmies?
The best order at timmies would be an everything bagel with cream cheese, a peach juice and a honey crueler

Q: What if your favourite thing about CISV that relates to your position?
The thing that I enjoy most about CISV is the opportunity it gives me to interact with all these amazing people and all of their great ideas. No other feeling can compare to helping a fellow CISVer implement a brilliant idea they have and watch as it evolves into something you wouldn't have been able to 
imagine when you first started!! That's why I love CISV so much!!!

Second Eh Team Update: DCC, Tarra Joshi!

Today, we are profiling the second member of the Eh Team, Tarra Joshi! Check it out below

Q: What is your position?
A: My position is DCC or the Development Committee Coordinator.

Q: What is your favourite part of the job?A: My favourite part of the job is being able to interact with JBers all across Canada, as well as being able to be a part of awesome projects that the whole country can get excited for. A highlight for me this year was staffing SBTF, and coming home utterly inspired and blown away by the talent and passion of JB Canada 

Q: What is the best order at Timmies?
A: The best order at Timmies is a jalapeno and asiago bagel, toasted with cream cheese with a boston cream donut and either a frozen lemonade or icecap to wash it all down. 

Q: What if your favourite thing about CISV that relates to your position?
A: I love that CISV offers each individual an opportunity to connect, engage and interact. If a CISVer has the creativity or an idea for a project, they have the support and resources to be able to make that dream become a reality. This ties in with my role as DCC because the JBDC (Junior Branch Development Committee) is able to nurture this organizations creativity!

Eh Team Canada Updates!

Hey JB Canada, 

For the next week, until NBM and NJBM begin on November 8th, we are going to be posting some updates from the people who were on the Eh Team this year, so you can see how their terms have gone and what they enjoyed most!

To start us off, we've got Amy Ayer, the most lovely Jr NJR ever :)

Q: What's your position on the Eh Team?
A: My position is NJR, this means that I am a representative of Canada's Junior Branch to both CISV Canada, and CISV International. 

Q: What's your favourite part of the job?A: I love my job! The best part is knowing that what I do matters, and is important. I get to work with the most amazing people, and I love learning about the structures, policies, and procedures behind this organization that I love. 

Q: What's the best order at Timmies?

A: I really love getting an Icecap and a sandwich during at layover, or while using their wifi for a CISV Meeting 

Q: What about CISV do you like best, that has to do with your position?
A: I love all the amazing learning opportunities that CISV has to offer. Not only does CISV teach ideas about world peace and other cultures, but it gives youth opportunities to learn leadership skills and how to work in an organization. My position has taught me so many lessons of how to work with people, and how to work in a business. I have learned how to teach sessions, organize meetings, and how to think with an opinion that is different from my own. ie How to act and make decisions that I believe are for the good of a group, and not just what I believe. National Camp Coordinator, and LJR are other examples of the opportunities that CISV gives youth to be empowered in running the organization and making it better.

CISV Week is DONE! + A JB Canada Update

What a success CISV Week has been! Over 1,300 people attended the CISV Week event on Facebook, along with tons of pictures posted on Instagram, and tweets about what everyone all over the world has been up to for CISV Week. You can search up some cool CISV Week related tweets under the hashtag #CISVWeek on Twitter or Instagram or by following the CISV Week twitter page. There are some really inspirational quotes, memories, stories and pictures that JBers from all around the world have posted, so go check them out! 
On the other hand, we thought it would be nice to update everyone on JB Canada. JB Canada is doing awesome, in case you were wondering. The Eh Team especially is particularly proud with so much we have accomplished this year! The JBDC along with their LJBDCC's have come out with an amazing story book, that has become a great fundraiser for JB Canada. National Camp was held in Toronto this year, and was a great success, with a great turnout and some really meaningful activities were run. The NJRs have done more than we can comprehend, by attending AJB, IJBC and AIM all in Salvador, Brazil this past summer, and then going on to staff National Camp. The Commsquad has been doing a pretty swell job (I'd say), with keeping the blog up to date, sending out regular emails, and keeping in contact with the IJB team. And finally, the most important piece to the JB Canada puzzle, the LJRs! They have all been outstanding this year. Each chapter in Canada has held some great activities, including cookie-a-thons, mini camps, 14+ events, chapter fundraisers, silent auctions, and many more exciting and unique ones that always blow our minds. 
As the year is coming to a close, with NJBM looming over our heads, the Commsquad can definitely agree, that on behalf of the Eh Team, this year has been a great success! CISV Canada continues to grow, and it could not have been done without all the active JB members throughout Canada!
So, thank YOU JB Canada, for an amazing-fantastic-awesome-crazy 2012-2013 year, and we hope to see all your lovely faces at NJBM from November 8th-11th in Ottawa!
