CISV Victoria: Anti-Bullying Day

February 26th, as you may all know, is Anti-Bullying Day and CISV Victoria got involved! We had a few representatives go to a local film festival to watch videos made by youth about anti-bullying, participate in the fun crowd activities, and promote CISV to the youth of Victoria.

There were 20 videos locally made by youth groups (most of the audience were under the age of 10), all entered to win prizes. Sadly, we didn't have time to make a video so we are hoping to submit one next year. We learned about the importance of inclusion and how taking a small step and speaking up for someone else will go a long way. The sea of pink shirts and smiles was very loud and excited on this Wednesday night and CISV Victoria was pumped to be a part of this!!

CISV LGBTQ and Inclusion Project Update

La retourne de CISV LGBTQ returns!!!

Salut/Hello CISV JB Canada!
To begin, Sierra and I want to say an enormous thank you for everything you’ve been doing for promoting conversation about LGBTQ topics. We loved getting to meet with your chapter representatives at NBM and are really happy with the progress that’s been made so far.
If you haven’t seen it already, we’ve made some changes on the website since November (www.cisvlgbtqandinclusion.weebly.com). We’re changing things around to make a bit more sense and are beefing up the resources that you asked for at NBM.
Have a look at the News page where we have news events posted for inspiration in discussions of LGBTQ topics. We’ve also changed the layout to focus on getting communication down first and then moving to activity planning after communication is top notch in your whole chapter.
Alors, tout le monde, continuer le travaille super et un grand « bien fait! » pour ceux d’entre vous qui répondent au courrielles ;) Sierra et moi, vous pouvez toujours nous trouver à cisvlgbtq@gmail.com
So everyone, keep up the good work and a big “way to go!” for those of you who respond to your emails ;) Sierra and I are always reachable at cisvlgbtq@gmail.com
 Peace and l’amour!
-Erin

Toronto JB Update!!

Hey JB Canada!
Hope you are all doing fantastic. Apart from the crazy amount of snow we have been having here in Toronto, we have been busy planning all these amazing events for our chapter. Though the only two things we have had recently are info day and selections. Our cookie athon is right around the corner planned by our beautiful Hannah. Hope you all are having awesome times in your chapter. We love you!!
Love JB Toronto

Another LJR Townhall!

Hi everyone!

Just a reminder that our second LJR Townhall is scheduled for this Sunday, February 23rd at 1PM in Vancouver and Victoria, 4PM in Ontario, and 5PM on the East Coast. All LJRs are invited, and we encourage you to drop in and say hi. The meeting will begin with Grace Vottero, who will be our guest speaker available to answer questions about JB retention, and chapter development. Come prepared with some questions as Grace is such a wonderful resource.

Please remember to wear headphones. We will also be muting you if there is a lot of background noise coming from your house.
We look forward to seeing you on Sunday!

Need more information? Contact your DCC's at dcc@ca.cisv.org! They can answer any of your questions!

Hope to see you there!

A Mid-Way Meeting Update from our NJRs!

The NJRs had a very productive Mid Winter Meeting (MWM) with the adult executive last weekend in Toronto. We talked a lot about a strategic working plan that we will continue to look back to during the year to make sure CISV Canada is achieving our goals efficiently. As NJRs, we learned a lot about some of the things that are taking place at the adult level, which was pretty interesting. We also worked with Marlien, the Risk Manager on our social media guidelines, and talked about the Junior Risk Management Handbook we’re currently working on with Tessa, the National Junior Risk Manager. We spent a lot of time with Liz, the National Treasurer figuring out our finances, and preparing them for the annual audit that CISV Canada goes through. After MWM ended, we went with Liz to the bank where all the JB finances are located and met our banker, which Amy in particular was very excited about! Mary, our National Secretary held a fantastic social night at her house on the Saturday night where some JBers from Toronto came, as well as the National Leadership Training Committee who was having a meeting in Toronto as well, so it was definitely a fun filled night for everyone. All in all, MWM was an exhausting weekend, where we learned a lot and got some stuff done for JB Canada too! If you want to see some of the things the NJRs did over the weekend, check out our Facebook page where we posted some videos and photos over the weekend (food, cats, and balloons)!

Bonding, Birthdays and Bags of Clothes: An Update from CISV Victoria

CISV Victoria has been a busy chapter. From the 1st to the 3rd of January, a  very successful 14+ minicamp was held. With a total of twenty people, including alumni chaperones, it explored several topics, which involved a focus on 'identity'.
On January 17th, we had a local JB meeting, with a surprise special event before hand. It was CISV Vietnam's birthday and we made a video wishing them well, complete with a giant cupcake and, as luck would have it, a member of CISV Vietnam. Newcomer Emily and NJR Amy Ayer spontaneously met when both happened to be wearing CISV t-shirts in a local starbucks here in Victoria.  Emily has just moved here to go to school. Things like that are far and few between, and remind us how special our organization really is.

Recently, on January 26th, JB Victoria participated in a very rewarding Mosaic project with Our Place Society, a local organization dedicated to providing support for homeless and low-income residents. Volunteers sorted through a literal MOUNTAIN of donated clothes over the course of a day and were rewarded with free lunch and a tour, where we were able to meet some of the people, both volunteers and recipients, and explore the facility.
